“We believe that by working together with men and boys, Wang-oo will spread awareness and spark action on the responsibilities that men and boys have in unlearning and eliminating all forms of discrimination & violence against women and girls”

 As the core focus of our work, Wang-oo uses various avenues and strategic approaches to engage and promote positive masculinities among males- boys and men at various levels: Community, Churches, Workplace, etc. to spread awareness and spark action on the responsibilities that men and boys have in unlearning and eliminating all forms of discrimination & violence against women and girls.

OBJECTIVE

At our Male Engagement Forums, we aim to:

  1. Increase (our) understanding of the causes of VAWG among target groups through sharing and learning;

  2. Improve men and boys’ understanding of VAWG and the related [negative] implications on women and girls [rights], development as well as the consequences on men from their acts of VAWG.

  3. Introduce and form positive masculinity clubs for existing men and boys’ associations who will act as change agents in their communities and roll out positive masculinities agenda.

“We use a mix of approaches to promote positive masculinity– values of love, respect and equality for all among men and boys”

WHAT WE DO

At each level (Community, Churches, Workplace, etc.)  we form Positive Masculinity Clubs, train the male members of various organized organizations or associations, who later become Change agents in their communities and sustain the Positive Masculinities Agenda. Specifically, these Change Agents do shares with and encourages their colleagues to embrace positive gender norms and most importantly, use their power positively and differently.

We promote positive masculinities by:

1. Organizing small community meetings and workshops, engagement and dialogue with men and boys in the most convenient places and time.

2. Utilizing the already existing men and boys groups such as Men’s Fellowships, SACCOs, Evenings gatherings, staff rooms, bus parks, markets, factories, village meetings, mosques, after mass gatherings, etc.

3. Registrations of members, signing the pledge or commitment forms, the election of group monitors and coordinators to keep track of members.

4. Identifying and recognizing male champions, role models and best practices.

5. Creating a network of champions and forming social networks
