ASP Francis Ogweng, Co-founder of Wang-oo Male Engagement Forum, a forum that aims to promote positive masculinity to help men and boys to unlearn and end violence against women in Uganda, has made headlines in the international news for his dedication, commitment, and zeal to help fill the lacuna in the fight against violence against women in Uganda, through male’s engagement.
In the story written by Thomas Lewton for the Reuters Foundation News titled “Male feminists inside Uganda’s police strike out at killing of women, our co-founder, Francis Ogweng is described to have “caused a scene as he marched down the busy highway towards Uganda’s capital, Kampala”, emulating the role of women in the society and also why the men should respect the rights of women.
Most importantly, ASP Ogweng narrates his grim and sad experiences where women including his own mother being battered and to some extent killed in this process, hence, reiterates the need for male agreement to ensure that gender-based violence is prevented in order to ensure Peace in the home and Peace in the nation.
